    Pickup hockey is DONE

Well, it's official. We're done. Last night I about had my fill. The 4 of us that showed almost got burned for $40.00 each since no one showed up. It's funny, I was rolling my eyes at all the "Hell yeah I'll be there posts. I guess I knew better. I'm gonna be setting it up for every third week or so with my brother and some of his friends; I'll call and advise. Some of you will have to pre-pay if you're interested, then I won't care if you stiff. You know who you are.

Anyway, since we're done, I'm gonna pass out the awards.

Most improved skater................Chris Frezza. I've been impressed.
    Runner Up..................................Jason Debler.

Hack of the year.........................Vinny, this was a no brainer.

    Attendance.................................Me, Tom a close second.

    Most injuries sustained..............Jason Debler.

    Red face Thanks everyone...I think!

It was great while it lasted, and I can't wait for it to start up again after the summer is over!

Never in my life did I think I would learn to ice skate, much less learn to play hockey to any degree of recognition.

I gotta disagree with Mario...I think I improved more than Frez did, considering that the first time I ever put a hockey stick in my hand was the bascially first time I ever ice skated. It was learning on the fricking spot for me. Frezza had prior experience.

    Heheh...okay, enough of that.

If it wasn't for Frez, I probably wouldn't have been out there in the first place. At least I wasn't the only one learning.

And thanks to Mario for passing the puck to me when he could have done something better with it and when he knew I was probably gonna blow it. He and only a couple other people ever passed the puck to me, even when I was wide open. If I got the puck and it wasn't Mario or the couple other guys, the puck found its way to me by accident.

Thanks to Vince for letting me get mad at him for 10 seconds and not holding it agaisnt me.

Thanks to Tom for general stupid question answering and sausage humor.

So at least I won the most injuries sustained award. I think that is kinda cool, because there was a lot of guys with decent experience that gave up and stopped coming after a while. You would think the guy that always got hurt would be the first to give up because he couldn't hack it. I got hurt a lot because I kept pushing myself even though I was still learning, and I am glad I didn't give up.

Yeah, I fell down a lot but I always got up instead of just saying "Screw it, I can't do this" and never coming back. Sure, I will admit I didn't even know what I was doing out there a lot of the time and as a result I got in the way and took a puck in the back, in the chest, in the calf... So I learned where not to be at certain times. I am glad I didn't ever get seriously hurt. Actually, I almost surprised that I didn't.

I didn't go all that far in relation to pretty much everyone else out there, but I came a long damn way from nowhere. I didn't do all that well sometimes, but at least I was there when I said I would be.

So thanks to all who taught me the game and were patient with me and gave a chance here and there. I had a good time every weekend, and I can't wait until we start up again!

It's really a shame that it had to end like this. We were going pretty good for a while there.

I had lots of fun. It was great to get out and burn up some energy, get out some aggression, and handle a stick for two hours every week.

It was cool to see the newbies improve so much. To see guys like Frezza and Debler go from barely standing up on skates, to becoming actual hockey players was an experience.

I'm definitely up for playing anytime someone wants to put something together.

BTW Valentina (jailbait hostess) said that we had better keep playing because she didn't want us to stop coming in.

I'm still up for lacing em up and hitting the ice this summer. We had this going since November - can you believe it? I only missed 1 week of playing since we've had this going (although we all took a week break over the Holidays). I'm gonna miss waking up on Sunday mornings aching from the worknight the night before.

Okay - who's for hitting the Gym then with me Maybe we can get together Sat nights for some Wallyball/Basketball/Raquetball at Total Sports in Mt. Clemens instead? They usually have the 9pm till 1am / 2am all you can play prices for like $10 there. C'mon, I need the excercise

As for the most improved Skater - I learned a lot in the 7 months we've had this going and I hope to continue. I'd just like to say that we should all Celebrate St. suck my big fat f&*$n Saaaaaaaausaaaaaage!

Mary-O and I were discussing just going out and doing some "25 oz. curls".

I suck at basketball, but I'd prolly still be up for it.

I'll check into drop in at Hazel Park too. It used to be on Saturdays nights, but I haven't been there in a while.

Hey I don't think I did too bad considering I was fairly new at this. I played about two hockey games in 9th grade and ice skated mabye twice a year, for about two years after I played hockey. So I was and still am an amature.

    I miss hockey already
