Is there anything more to prove this season?

As Scotty Bowman starts to rest key players down the stretch, the Wings are playing on automatic pilot it seems.

Shanahan scored with over a minute left to go against Nashville last night to tie the game 3-3, and that's how it ended.

The Wings only need 1 more win and a Philly loss to claim bragging rights over the entire NHL and receive the Presidents Trophy.

Next game is against Nashville again on Thurs at the Joe.

Of course there is, winning the stanley cup. If the Wings don't win, it will be a biig letdown to them an their fans. I mean they are the strongest team in the NHL (arguably and at least on paper) In my mind, the expectations for the wings to win the cup is sort of like the expectations people in North Carolina had for Duke to win the NCAA. And they dropped big time, so there was a huge letdown for many people.

I was speaking in terms of the regular season - of course the ultimate goal of this organization is to win the Stanley Cup. This is why the team made the moves it did last June. Bringing in Hasek, Robataille, Hull and Olausson...and just recently, Slegr.

This team has a hunger I haven't seen in a few years - players like Robataille and Hasek have never won a Stanley Cup.

The Wings have approached this season like a well oiled Red Machine. There is only 1 goal - The Stanley Cup, anything less is a huge letdown. Because of the high payroll this year, the Wings need to make it to the Western Conference Finals to post a profit - this was said at the beginning of the season...however nobody expected Red Wings merchandise sales and ratings to go through the roof either.

I never even thought about the Wings showing a profit. That's interesting that they would have to make it to the western finals to make a profit.

The comparison to Duke doesn't work. Anyone can have a letdown in a single game. But I don't see any teams hanging with the Wings for a 7-game series.

If Forsberg could come back at 100%, I might be scared of Colorado. But beyond them, there's nobody out there who can match up against the Wings.

They still have not proved that they can score 12 goals in a game

Maybe they will play the younger guys more down the stretch. I'd like to see more of Williams, Kuznetsov, Wallin, Datsyuk, and Avery.
