The last report I heard during the Wings game was the Rangers were close to giving up York and somebody else for Bure.

    Heres what I heard...

"The deal is to send York, Ulanov, Filip Novak, and Mottau to Florida for Pavel Bure and an AHLer."

I will be pissed if this deal goes down. York is a great player that plays his ass off every night. Mottau and Novak are some of our best young talent, Ulanov I dont care about.

Sather is a real jerkoff if he pulls this off. Bure is not a player I really even want on the team, I dont like him. Maybe if he puts Nedved in this trade instead of York....But Im not really sure I like that either.

I think any deal for Bure will make the Rangers worse. The last thing the Rangers need is a guy who never crosses his on blue line, they need to trade for some defense.

I couldn't agree more. Bure is WAY to greedy to help his team. You notice that teams seem to get better when he leaves. Florida would have a hard time getting worse without him, Vancouver got much better once rid of him. Sather keeps making mistakes up there. One's gotta wonder how many chances he'll get!!

I feel for ya PJ. I don't know why this team is SO eager to make moves. The management acts like little kids just trying to get their names in the paper. They need help on Defense, so they pick up Pavel Bure?? How lame.

Alright, this article makes me feel a bit better...Says Florida may hold on to him. sheeeeew

If the New York Rangers acquire Pavel Bure from the Florida Panthers before Tuesday's NHL trade deadline, it will come as no surprise to anyone.

The Rangers and the Dallas Stars have been in negotiations to acquire the Russian Rocket for some time now. But as for specific reports on Wednesday afternoon that said Bure was a good bet to be traded to the Rangers by Wednesday night for a package that included Mike York, amongst others, well, that runs counter to what TSN's sources close to the Panthers are reporting.

In fact, not only was Bure not traded Wednesday night, but sources have told TSN the Panthers are actually considering taking Bure off the trade market. It has even been suggested the Panthers might take a page out of the Tampa Bay Lightning's book and issue a press release to that effect on Thursday, just as the Lightning did when they opted not to deal Vincent Lecavalier in December.

Press release or not, the speculation will continue until the deadline expires without a Bure deal or until the Panthers decide to move him - and both scenarios remain a possibility, as does the viability of Bure ending up in Dallas or New York.

While talks have been extensive between the Panthers and those two serious suitors, the decision makers in the Florida organization - owner Alan Cohen and general manager Chuck Fletcher - had on Wednesday not agreed with either team on precisely what it would take to get Bure out of Florida. Lots of names and scenarios were traded back and forth, but nothing was settled upon.

That may still happen, but there's also a chance Bure will be taken off the open market, either as a ploy to drive up the asking price or because the Panthers simply don't want to move him at this time, or perhaps ever.

Why keep a $10 million player on a non-playoff team?

One reason might be that the Panthers believe the offers they're getting now simply aren't satisfactory. Or another reason is that Panther owner Cohen is a close friend of Bure and deep down doesn't want to see him leave the team. It may, in fact, be a combination of both those things.

Cohen has given Panthers' GM Fletcher the green light to make a Bure trade if it's in the best interest of the Panther organization, but the owner, not to mention Fletcher, might be having second thoughts because the return is apparently quite modest.

So stay tuned because this soap opera could still be played out in any number of ways.

When a huge contract player is dealt at the end of a contract to a playoff team, usually you won't get as much because they still have to try and sign him to a huge deal at the end of the season, unless you're a rent-a-player like Ray Borque!! Anyway, you could really make an arguement for both sides. It doesn't make sense to sit on a $10 million guy and not make the playoffs, but if the return is weak, you can't jusify getting rid of him.

    Chris,

I hope you know that i was being sarcastic!!!

I never really like Lindros, in regards to this trade, Sather is thinking twice as the media in NYC has come all over him. What a wimp, your going to let fans dictate your decisions??? So if I call up Quinn and tell him get rid of Joseph, he is going to do it?

Ive been thinking about this trade, and my opinion of it has changed. I think the Rangers should go ahead and do it. Its basically York for Bure, and how could you pass that up?

Maybe because Bure will never hoist the Stanley Cup, unless he is a small part of a very talented team.

IMHO, the best players of any winning team have to play both ends of the ice, and they have to follow the coaches system. Something Pavel has never done... even under Pat Quinn. If your $10 million star is not back-checking then why should your defencemen risk life and limb blocking shots?

Bure and his kid brother are locker room cancers.

Besides, aren't there enough I's in that NYR dressing room?

I hear ya, that all makes sense. But thinking about him scoring 50 goals a year has me droolin. Plus we could use a couple extra goals for the playoff run this season.

Luckily for Bure, I dont think the Rangers have a system Seems like everyone just does what they like. Maybe he would fit in.
