With all the Roy hype as usual. I just wanted to remind everyone that although Roy's save percentage and goals against average is a minor .2 higher than Hasek's, the Dominator has 11 more wins than Roy and there are still 17 or so games left for these goaltenders numbers to change a little bit. This race isn't over by a long shot. Checkmonik (sp?) should also get some consideration.

Of course, being an Avs fan, Roy would have to be my sentimental favorite, but ur right, Hasek's wins should definitely be taken in to account...i think that Roy should be up for the Hart...his play has sparked the team all season long...there were definitely times during the season where he was singlehandedly winning games...but, just my opinion

I think him not playing for team Canada because they wouldn't name him the outright starter could hurt him. He's always been a great goaltender, but he's always had a bad attitude. I'll tell you something else, along with Hasek, he's definitely one of the worse puck handling goaltenders of all time. They both suck at it.

True, the story i heard about the Olympics was that he wanted to be able to spend time being a good father. His son had a hockey tournament (my little brother was playing in it, so that's kinda where i got this story from), and he almost never gets to see him play because of the season schedule and all, so he apparently took the opportunity to rest for the home stretch/playoffs and spend some time just being a dad. If that's true you gotta respect him for it. While it may be viewed as having an attitude (at least in this particular situation), it can also be looked at as bein a good guy...As far as the puckhandling goes, he scares the hell outta me every time i see him wandering outta the net...he needs like a leash or sumthin to chain him to the posts...especially in the final last year...oh man, there was the gomez goal that almost ended the series, and then there was the elias shot that hit the post, when he was out wanderin around doin sumthin or another...i really wish he would cut that out, haha

I don't think from what I've heard, his decision not to play for team Canada was as innocent as the fatherhood speal. I could be wrong, but he's not the most humble person in pro sports. I just kept hearing he was pissed that Gretzky wouldn't name him the starter outright and he couldn't deal with it. I've seen that guy go bonkers in his career a couple times. I remember when the Wings spanked him for like 12 goals in Montreal and he skated off the ice and said he would never play for that coach again. You gotta wonder where Montreal would be if he had spent his entire career there. It wasn't a big deal at the time, cause he wound up on the other french-canadian team before the move.

Don't get me wrong, he's definitely one of the best goaltenders of all time. I just don't like comparing today with the past. There are so many more rules and equipment that make life a little easier than in the olden days, of course, I think the talent level is up from back then too though.

You could go on all night with the what ifs. If Gretzky had played back then, would he have more points or would he have gotten pounded out of the league?? I guess it doesn't matter.

Jose Theodore leads the league in save%. And he does it on a team that's not exactly as good as Colorado, Detroit or Philly. He has literally won games for the Habs this year.
Khabibulin has been great this year too, but his teams suckiness will keep him from getting considered.

Hasek has looked good, but not great. At least not compared to his previous seasons. And the wins are really a non-factor. Any goalie would have 30+ wins with the Wings.

Mario: Roy was traded to Colorado, NOT Quebec. They had already moved when he left the Habs. And yes, he's always been a selfish egotistical bastage. But when you're the best ever, you can be that way I guess.
I remember when the Avs were playing the Blackhawks back in the 96 playoffs. Jeremy Roenick had been running his mouth about something, and a reporter asked Roy what he though about it. He said, " I couldn't hear him... I had my two Stanly Cup rings in my ears." I damn near split my gut laughing at that one.

Oh, ur totally right about his ego, he is notorious for having a pretty shoddy attitude at times...and i'm sure that his head did play some sort of a role in his decision not to play for Canada...the father story comes from my mother, cuz my little brother was playing in the tournament, but i dunno, it could be bs too, who knows

You know, at first, I thought he got traded to Colorado, but I couldn't come up with who was the goaltender when they moved, so I ASSUMED it was Roy. But it was the first season in Colorado, I think anyway.

And about your Theodore comment, who wouldn't look good playing in front of that team? HEHE

Huh? Not sure what you mean by the Theodore comment... He sees a ton of shots. And gets very little support from the offence.

Thibault was the starter in Quebec/Colorado before they traded him in the deal for Roy.

Just messing with you. Just remember to bring some shoulder pads, a white jersey and some headache medicine for Saturdays brawl on the ice!
