PETER FORSBERG ANNOUNCES HE IS TAKING A LEAVE OF ABSENCE FROM THE GAME OF HOCKEY
STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Colorado Avalanche center Peter Forsberg announced today in Stockholm, Sweden that he has decided to take a leave of absence from the game of hockey.
“I’ve made a tough decision; I just feel that right now, in my current frame of mind I can’t go out and play at the level I expect out of myself,” said Forsberg. “Over the last few years, the numerous injuries and the recent surgeries made me come to this decision. I understand the impact my decision will create, but I want to be honest with myself. I love Denver, I love the fans and this organization. I will truly miss everything.”
Peter’s agent, Mr. Don Baizley, made the Avalanche aware of his decision late Friday night. Peter then met with Colorado Avalanche owner Mr. E. Stanley Kroenke and President and General Manager Pierre Lacroix to confirm his decision.
“We are shocked with his decision, but we have to respect it,” said Colorado Avalanche President and General Manager Pierre Lacroix. “Peter told me that he did not have the desire, strength, and mental toughness to compete right now and wanted to step aside.”
Im sad to see Him go.................

I am wondering if there is more to this than is being said...
After all the terrorist things, I am wondering if some sports players will be nervous, or unwilling to play in crowded arenas and stadiums.

i wouldnt be suprised.. but can u blame him?
I saw it has to do with his KNEES or feet. I saw on another board that was the reason. I think he is just TAKING some time off the start of the season.

Some interviews with some players on the Avs said Forsberg with sit out the entire season this year. I'm sure this is gonna be pretty hard for the Av's to miss a guy of that caliber.

Do you think they will do well this season with this news ?
I think they will be a top seater this year, But not the CUP.
If he sits out Can he play in the playoffs, Not being on the roster I dont know. But look back to other players They came back only for the PLAYOFFS ( but I think there were on the roster)

i think they will still dominate without him.. the still got sakic, tanguay and hekduk.. not to mention roy, blake.. also nieminem looks good.. and drury
Well, I think the West will come down to COL and DET again... but without Forsberg, DET is almost a lock to take the West...

That will be a tough loss for Col., but they did not have his services for last post season and it really did not slow them down. Dallas has made some big improvements and cannot be overlooked. I still have not made a decision on Detroitthey have a ton of talent, but it is all another year older... we'll see how they play together. In the east it should be Philly (as much as I hate to say it), the Devils were a bunch of thugs and will not even be back in the conference finals.
I'm not so sure that not having Forsberg will take that much out of the Colorado team....I mean, they won the cup without him!!
