What are some old trades you remember?

About the oldest trade I can recall was Dino Ciccarelli for Mike Gartner, back in the 80's, I think Gartner went to Minnesota from Washington.

I remember Russ Courtnall for John Kordic, greatest trade for Montreal possibly ever.

    Just trying to boost conversation.

I remember the Pens trading Marcus Nadlund for Alek Stojanov...

But... I also remember the trade that brought Ronnie Francis to the 'Burgh with Ulf Samuelsson!!
    Let's go PENS!

How about when the Habs gave away Chelios, their best defenceman, for an old worn out Denis Savard (who they could have drafted first over-all, but instead selected some putz that only Tom probably remembers ).

I remember when the Leafs traded away Lanny McDonald, and then Darryl Sittler (a truly great Leaf captain)... I can't remember what the Leafs got in return, but I can guarantee you it wasn't worth what they gave away.

Best Leaf trade was when we stole Gilmour from Calgary for Gary Leeman (50 goal scorer/Al Iafrate wife stealer).

Ugh.... Montreal had the #1 pick that year(1980), and used it on Doug Wickenheiser.

Paul Coffey was taken 6th(!) by the Oilers that year. Man, the Habs woulda been awesome with him in the lineup.

They'd have been better off with Haley Wickenheiser.

Man I remember the biggest one of them all, when Gretzky went to the Kings! Oh my god I think the entire country of Canada cried...In fact I still remember reading a copy of a hockey magazine (Hockey News??...Too bad I didn't keep it, might be a nice collectable now) with an article talking about the trade...I still remember reading one part where they were talking about when Gretzky's contract would be up and that at that time maybe he'd come back home...Then they met up with Edmonton in the playoffs and Messier checked him pretty good, it was like Canada was cheering Messier cause by then many considered Gretzky a traitor or something...And you guys do know that the Devils did trade Shannahan AND Guerin in the past right????...Sheeesh I can't imagine having those guys back now!! Oh well, as strange as it seems none of those guys were doing that much for the Devils at the time...

They were awfully young then though. Hell, that happens with lots of guys. Look at the wings. They've gotten rid of Oates, Graves, York, and Ray Shepard. He was a damn good winger.

IIRC The Devils didn't really trade Shannahan perse. They were forced to give him to the Blues because they illegaly signed Scott Stevens.

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned one of the biggest trades ever. Lindros to Philly for damn near the whole team and some cash!
The Nordiques(Avalanche) got Mike Ricci, Peter Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, Kerry Huffman, Ron Hextall, Chris Simon, two draft picks(one ended up being Jocelyn Thibault), and $15 million! The Flyers got Lindros.

Now that's a big effin trade! It won the cup for the Avs a few years later.

The worst trade in recent Detroit history has to be Oates and McLean for Federko and that black dude from St. Louis. Wasn't that the one that got Demers fired? Guess he wanted his buddy Federko so bad he would have given the world away. Federko lasted one year, Oates is still playing.
Another old trade I was upset about was when Boston traded Phil Esposito to the Rangers.

That was a terrible trade, but there was either more to that situation, or they made him look evil to cover their asses about ridding the team of him. I couldn't even imagine what may have been. Maybe it was just that you couldn't carry to centermen of that caliber. How about bringing in Bob Errey, or Jimmy freakin Carson. Those were dandies!! Although, I'm not sure about Errey, I think he was involved in a trade, and not a free agent signing?? Ken, do you remember??

I think it was Carson for Klima among others in the deal. I think Carson was the last to wear #10 before it was retired.

Yeah, the Carson trade is bad in retrospect. But at the time, he was coming off of a 50 goal season IIRC, and he was a local boy to boot.

Here's a recent terrible one for the wings. They traded a prospect (Petr Sykora) and a draft pick (turned out to be Mike Comrie) for Doug freakin Brown to Nashville to get him back after the expansion draft!!!! Unbelievable!!!
