I htink he will stay with the capital.. with jagr and all he has a better chance at the cup now
Story from Canoe's website
You'd think a guy who has the opportunity to play with Jaromir Jagr on his line would itching to play, but Mr. Oates still wants to get traded.
Anybody else see this guy going to Detroit to center Brett Hull and bring back the classic Hull and Oates line?
Nah, me either!![]()

I htink he will stay with the capital.. with jagr and all he has a better chance at the cup now
Thus far(as of 9/29/01), Mr. Oates seems to have conducted himself in his usual professional manner on the ice (had an assist last night in the Carolina pre-season game on Mr. Jagr's second goal). As long as he continues to do so, the Caps' fans will support him as they do all members of the team.
He had a good training camp, and seems to be on good terms with most if not all of the players. Whatever the eventual outcome of his trade demand, he is a highly skilled player and an asset to the Washington organization as long as he stays here. Should the Capitals get what Mr. McPhee considers a fair and equal offer for trade, I'm sure his desire to leave will be fulfilled; until then, I look forward to watching Mr. Oates's performance.
We could use Mr. Oates back here in Detroit and can reunite the 'Hull and Oates' line again![]()
