Worst Ref in hockey - Dennis LaRue
There was no penalty called on the play, though referee Dennis La Rue was nearby and immediately blew the play dead at 4:52 of the second when he saw Koivu on the ice despite the fact Carolina had the puck and was breaking up ice.
The Canadiens said more details will be made available on Thursday.
Many in the Montreal dressing room afterwards had trouble understanding how LaRue missed the call, especially after Canadiens defenceman Mike Komisarek got nailed with a four-minute high-sticking call for an infraction on Cory Stillman with only 4:34 left to play in regulation.
The Canadiens killed off the four-minute power play with only one shot allowed to force overtime, but then Eric Staal scored the game-winner while Tomas Plekanec served a holding minor to cut Montreal's lead in the series to 2-1.
"I'm the guy that was in the penalty box, and that's all I can say," a disconsolate Plekanec said. "Maybe I held him, maybe he fell over the net, whatever it is they scored the OT winner and they got the game."
Hey Dennis, here's a ****ing update for you. The fans don't want you deciding the games, they're there to watch the players. You got it, loser?
"Keeps going like this, the Zamboni driver is going to be the first star."
