Let's hash this out right now while everyone is still hot under the playoffs/recovering from the hang-over from someone's Bachelor party.

Which group is the one that's going to have to suck it up for the good of the game, the players or the owners?

I'm not asking who's wrong or right... I am asking are the owners going to have to go easy on the CBA to keep the game healthy or are the players going to have to concede to keep the peace and their jobs.

The owners have to take some responsibility for making the salaries the way they are. So I think the owners are going to have to give up more concessions than the Players association will.

Who NEEDS to suck it up for the good of the game? The players... otherwise this will just continue to spiral out of control until there is no more NHL. Yes, the owners (of some teams) are partially responsible, but that doesn't change who NEEDS to suck it up to save the game.

Who WILL cave in? Probably the owners... always seems to end up that way in pro sports.... at least in the last 10-15 years.

Philadelphia Flyers general manager Bob Clarke said Monday that a salary cap would hurt good teams because, by virtue of frequent high finishes, they don't get the better draft picks.

As a result, they have to bid on high-priced free agents. But with a salary cap, combined with the commitment to players already in their system, they couldn't do so.

"I don't think that we should be penalized for doing a good job selling out our building, having a good television contract and marketing and stuff like that," Clarke said.

"It seems that the way they are talking, they always call us a high-payroll team. But we should be called a high-revenue team.

"Maybe some of the other clubs should be doing a better job of selling tickets. We started off with nothing in 1967. You cannot penalize us for doing a good job, but it looks like the (new) CBA is going to do that. Not only us, but Dallas, Detroit, New York Rangers ..."

Bettman refused to comment upon Clarke's remarks because he hadn't seen them in print. But he strongly implied that once he has seen them, he will fine Clarke heavily.

Descension in the owner's ranks. If this means training camps in September.. then I'm all for it! Keep yapping Bobby!

FWIW I think the owners will end up conceding. Especially with the WHA starting up. I can't wait to get my season tickets to see the Detroit franchise. Hopefully Hull will stick around and play for them.
