Talking Who here actually plays hockey?

I've been a goalie for 8 years now. I have never played a more intense, demanding sport. I love it

So, who else here gets out on the ice?

Lot's of people in and around detroit play hockey. I love it, I'd rather play than watch hockey. Hockey in the mid-west is huge. The difference is, we are fortunate enough to get natural ice. There's nothing better than gearing up and playing pickup hockey on an outdoor rink all winter long. Freezing temperatures provided. Minnesota is a huge hockey state too. Where your team was stolen from. hehe

Hockey is big all over and dont get the full time it should on the T.V. - Or papers.

We also play on NATURAL ICE like you said - But the best game is a PICK-UP down on the POND screw - the ICE RINK.

THATS PURE HOCKEY you gotta give me that............

Yes, I would kill(not really) for the chance to play on "real" ice. But for now, the rink will have to do...

I played Ice hockey on travel teams for about 6 years, then I had to get a job and stuff so I couldnt play any longer.

Skating on ponds sucks....im always worried about falling in. Especially when you get the kind of ice where you can look down in.....guess its a phobia or something.

I really want to play some hockey, but I am a very bad skater. I can not skate backwards, nor can I 'shave' the ice to stop fast... I'm thinking about taking skating lessons, then hockey lessons to play in a local league, but I am 29 years old, and feel kind of stupid going to take lessons...

But, if I get enough friends to do it, I will

Yeah, that's cool too, but on open ice (Lake St. Clair) you end up chasing the puck to hell and back when it gets loose. I got a thousand pucks or so at the bottom of my father-in-law's canal.

LOL that sucks we have a few ponds that we can get on and a FRIEND has a RINK up at his house. (good to have his money)
But pond hockey to me will always be the best. No time limits and all out fun. Sure you get the once a life time fall in but thats part of the fun.

    Thumbs up

I also like playing on organized teams, in a rink better because you can try to knock people through the boards. Ofcourse this works the other way as well, But thats the best part of the game.

growing up I always wanted to play hockey considering how big it is around here (although I know its bigger other places)
but my mom didn't want to have to get up early to take me to games and practice. Oh well I wrestled instead and she had to get up for that so
