    Thornton signs contract extension

    Boston signed center Joe Thornton to a one-year contract extension Monday. Thornton, the Bruins’ captain, is second in the league in scoring with 13 goals and 20 assists in 23 games. Thornton, named the NHL’s player of the week Monday, has 11 multipoint games this season.
