This baddy is a mutant of the Code Red worm. Except he's even smarter and the bastard unloads a nasty payload that's aparently a real PITA to clean up.
The boys at Ars Technica are all a buzz about it. (http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?a=tpc&s=50009562&f=12009443&m=2790995572)
Looks like people will start using Netscape again! ;)

Provided your using Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus software, you can use the instructions on their website to remove this virus.
Here's Symantec's website dealing with this virus and other nasties (http://www.sarc.com)

Firewalls don't protect against NIMDA, since it's downloaded as a request from the browser.
It also looks like the only way to make sure you have it completely removed is to re-format and re-install.:(:(

Symantec has finally released a tool to remove this terrible baddy, since their anti-virus software isn't able to kill it once and for all. Let's hope this does the trick!
Here's your link (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.nimda.a@mm.removal.tool.html)
