Here's the homepage for this 'should be awesome' game (http://nhl2002.ea.com/en/)

The TechTV show Extended Play had an interview with Toronto's own Barenaked Ladies about their involvement with the game. Story with video clips from the interview here. (http://www.techtv.com/extendedplay/videofeatures/story/0,23008,3344475,00.html)

This game looks like the real deal, what does the rest of the gang think?

What specificly didn't you like about them?

What worries me is that EA is starting to make it too arcade like and leaving behind the simulation that gives the series it's replay value.

Having said that, they keep tweaking the graphics which gives the game a real 'at the rink' feel. I think all they need to add in that regard is making it so that all the goals are scored while your in the restroom! ;)

Its not that i didnt like it ( I said before) It that I didnt see all that much of a change year after year. I still play my older ones but every year I got a new one, and I didnt feel it was worth spending money on.

The bathroom one would be great......

The one thing I hated about last years version was the cheesy goals the computer would score against you. That ticked me off beyond all belief. Hopefully that will be changed.

PJ,

Do you remember those the backhanded-shot goals from the blue line that the CPU used in NHL 2000? That drove me nuts! I have a shutout going into the last five minutes and it would pull that cheap-assed crap on me.

What I really liked about NHL 2001 was the dynamics that it allowed you to change (friction and bounces), you could really have fun with those options.

I've been around in the NHL Gaming community since the days of the good ol' NHL Gaming Online (NGO) and as a veteran gamer I would rank NHL2002 to the same category with 2001.

They added the stupid Pokemon Cards and took away the individual board files for each team which makes it practically impossible to do arena add-ons anymore (unless you want to run a batch file before each game). I'll buy the game when it's out here in Finland I can't guarantee I'll like. If the rumours are true that the game could be called NHL2001.5 instead of NHL2002, I'll return the game and get me money back.

Nuff said

Let's Go Rangers !

While I have yet to pick up the game myself. Chris tells me that this game is much improved from last years (which I thought was pretty darn good). I'm trying to talk him into doing a review of it from a Chasing Stanley fan perspective. :)

I've been trying to figure out who sing this one song in NHL 2002 for PS2. Some of the lyrics are:

"I wanna know, have i gone too far...
I've sunk to a brand new low....."

Anybody know?
thanks

I rented it for PS2 (actually still have it) its a really sweet game!
the beginner and easy settings are way way too easy. I beat NJ 19-1 w/ Colorado. It almost wasn't fun playing that one.
Fights suck in it, over way too fast and looks really stupid.
I like the "breakaway cam" and the "big hit cam" they just take a little getting used to.

probably a game I'll buy in a little while

While I haven't played the game yet, I know that the Barenaked Ladies did some original scoring for the game.

Also, this thread here (http://www.chasingstanley.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=90) contains some links that may help you find out who the artist and the song are.

Good Luck!

I merged RedWing497's thread on the song he was trying to find info on in NHL 2002 with this main thread on the game, because he's now found the info, and I hate having two threads on the same topic.

Yes, I am a bored mod. :D

I finally picked up the game, and it's better then I thought possible. This game is a big improvement over NHL 2000 (which IMO was the best edition of this series).

If you're a hockey fan who's sitting on the fence about this game... get it! You won't regret it.

But the question is..... Does the machine score garbage goals on your goalie? That is the only thing that would keep me from getting this game.

PJ,

I've played about 20 games so far (I just got it yesterday), and I have yet to see a questionable goal by the AI. I have however noticed some suspect hard slapshots from the Neutral Zone but I've yet to see one get by Cujo. ;)

Seriously, this is a great game. The Emotion meter (with a more animated crowd), the new commentator, and a much better in game replay system (which focuses on highlights and turning points) make this game much more fun to play and watch.

Has anyone checked out on-line play for 2002 yet?

I have to admit, I'm waiting to get my skillz and playz up to snuff before getting my ass kicked by an 11-year-old.

Not to brag, but in my neck of the woods I am known as the "Master of EA Hockey":D

are there tournaments or anything for this game? Actually nevermind, I think I would kind of feel like a loser:)
