Actually Xed, you've got it all wrong. From the Wings, the Pens would want Yzerman, Shannahan, Federov, Chelios and Hull. After the Wings refuse, they'd trade him to Colorado for a 2067 18th round pick!! (They're saying it's gonna be a good draft pool!)

How is it they wanted Datzyuk and Fisher from the Wings, yet they settle for Nemminen and some no-namer from Colorado??
Pierre LaCroix is no genious, he just has good blackmail photos of most general managers in the league!!

Don't ask me! I am unhappy with the trade, but I guess Patrick felt Niemenen (sp?) has almost as much upside as Datzyuk.

I guess the real question is, however, not why the Pens wanted that from the WIngs, but what were the Wings really willing to give up? I guess we will never know. I know Dandenaughlt (horrible sp :) ) was thrown around, but I think they are looking for young young kids.

BTW: Niemenen was the 1st player to were #10 for the Pens since Ronnie Francis left :(

Absolutely not - Datsyuk is in his first season as a rookie and still WAY better than Niemenen! Datsyuk is gonna be a big NHL star - he's got hands like Jagr, speed like Sergei and playmaking skills like Larianov.

Who knows whats going through the minds of GM's - but obviously they are smoking some crack on deadline day.

I would agree that Datzyuk has a lot more potential... that's probably why DET wouldnt trade him...

But I'm guessing DET didn't offer anything else that the Pens thought were better than Neimenin...
