It's sad to see my friend. I sure hope the Pens get that new arena though.

They definitly need a new arena. I went to a game in that building last year, and its pretty bad.
Shouldnt the Pens have cash? They went pretty far in the playoffs last year, and dont they sellout a lot of games?

From what Mario said, the Pens need to make the playoiffs for him to 'make money'... so I think they are set to about break even if the miss the playoffs.
The Mellon (Civic) Arena is like 32 years old... It wasnt even built to play hockey, it was build as an Opera Arena with a retractable roof!
It's served it's purpose over time, but it NEEDS to be replaced. I think a lot of teams get new arenas and dont REALLY need them... The Pens NEED a new arena. After going to the new Nationwide Arena in Columbus, there isn't even a comparison!
Mario did buy land next to the Civic Arena... where a former hospital now stands. He paid for the land, and is willing to pay for part of the arena I beleieve... which is expected to run around $255 million.
The state and/or city is slow moving on coughing up the cash... I can see that, but they paid for the Steelers and Pirates new places, and the hockey arena sure would be used a lot more for other things... like concerts, ice shows, convensions, etc etc etc...

I think it was Gordie Howe who said that "in order to be classified as a town in Canada, you have to build a hockey arena. Otherwise it's just a village."
I realise this adds nothing to the conversation, but I love quoting Gordie Howe, even when I'm not 100% sure he said it. :D
