It really was amazing, and haunting.
The sounds of the bodies landing everywhere is a sound I will never forget. Just really eerie.
Really captured the emotion and intensity of the moment, and a nice reminder of just what it is our guys are fighting for over there.
I was pretty speechless for a while afterward. The sounds of the bodies hitting the roof and courtyard affected me the most. However, I also got choked up when the firemen returned to the firehouse the next day and there was more food, boots and other items than they could ever possibly use. I was most touched by the little lady dropping off the bag of groceries at the firehouse. That moment really highlighted the strength of the human spirit and showed ordinary people rising to the occasion to assist in any way they could. Overall, an unbelievable glimpse into 9/11.
I'm sure CBS will re-show it sometime. If nothing else because of popular demand.
Guys, be in awe of all firefighters, not just NYC. These guys and gals...all of them, lay it on the line day after day.
Take care of your local fire station. Tell these men and women thanks for what they do. They will be the last to ask for thanks, but do appreciate it beyond what you could ever know.

I didn't want to watch it again. One of my closest friends is from NYC and he was devestated on 9/11. 2 of his closest friend worked in the wtc towers and he was not able to get hold of them for days, fortunately they were ok. I sat all day with my friend while he lost it and i just didn't want to remember that happening again

I wasnt sure If I wanted to watch it or not, but Im glad I did. That was extremely powerful, and well done.
I think some people needed to be reminded why we are at war, so it was also good for that.
Lets just hope something like that never ever ever happens again.

I'm not the crying type, but that show had my ass choked up. That was one well done documentary. Actually last night, there was another one on the history channel. They also just happened to be filming a modern marvel piece on the towers. They weren't there when it happened, but as they interviewed a bunch of employees, like the guy that ran the 4 acres of AC equipment in the basement, and the guy that ran the custom designed window washing system, they kept showing: Missing since 9-11. Half the guys they interviewed were gone. It was weird watching it.
You're right, I'll never forget the sound of those bodies landing. No wonder they weren't finding many bodies, I can't imagine how much of those people were left to pick up. I keep wondering how history will report this. This makes Pearl Harbor seem like the Boston Tea Party. Who would have ever thought we'd have reason to forget the Oklahoma tragedy??? It's a sick world...Speaking of which;
did anyone catch the Collin Quinn show that previewed last night? That was funny!!!

I missed it, but I hope that they will show it again so I can take it in. From what I've heard here and from others, it was unbelievably haunting and at the same time interesting.

I was out with my friends on New Year's Day and I won't forget the look on their faces while we were eating dinner afterwards and they asked me when my birthday was...I thought they knew but when I asked if they were kidding they said no...And I'm like, "It's September 11th guys"...You should have saw their jaws drop...They felt bad about it, I told them it was ok because fortunately I didn't lose a close friend or family member there...I can't even imagine what it would be like to lose my fiance like that, it almost chokes me up to even think about it...I could NOT have watched that special on TV if something had happeend...But boy I still remember, there was no celebration for me on that day...The last thing on my mind was my birthday...I don't so much get mad at what happened and who did what as I do sad about the whole situation...

___Got this in an email, thought this summed everything up nicely about the war on terror.___________________________________________ ______________________
This msg is from the USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67). It is the announcement
given by the Captain of the Kennedy, Capt Ron Howard, shortly before the
JFK
launched her first strikes into Afghanistan on March 10th. A poignant read
from a leader to his entire crew, each of whom has been placed in harms way
in this nation's battle against terrorism. It is also another important
reminder to those of us at home of the sacrifices the members of our Armed
Forces make on a daily basis to preserve our freedom. May God bless and
protect them.
__________________________________________________ __________________
Good evening onboard John F. Kennedy and Carrier Air Wing Seven.
We are currently preceding at best speed to our launch point for tonight's
strikes, south of our targets in Afghanistan. At midnight, CVW 7 will
launch into the dark night, and strike their first blows of Operation
Enduring Freedom, the war on terrorism. For us this is a culminating point
in space, a culminating point in time, and a culminating point in history.
Our enemy is a group of religious fanatics, who pervert the peace of Islam
and twist its meaning to justify the murder of thousands of innocents at
the
Twin Towers of New York, at the Pentagon, and in a field in Pennsylvania.
They hate us and attack us because they oppose all that is good about
America. They hate us because we are prosperous. They hate us because we
are
tolerant. They hate us because we are happy. Mostly, they hate us because
we
are free and because we will "pay any price, bear any burden, meet any
hardship, support any friend or oppose any foe to assure the survival and
success of liberty." Make no mistake - this is fight for Western
Civilization. If these monsters are not destroyed they will destroy us, and
our children and children's children will live in fear forever.
America is the only nation that can stop them and destroy them. Only
America
has the strength of character and the vast resources to hunt these fanatics
down anywhere in the world. We have friends and Allies but we are the
leaders of the world our forefathers made and died for. Our Naval power has
been the principal weapon of our resolve. Great ships and great crews have
gone before us - ENTERPRISE, CARL VINSON, KITTY HAWK, TEDDY ROOSEVELT, JOHN
C. STENNIS. Tonight, our enemies will feel the power of USS JOHN F KENNEDY.
It is now our turn to strike for justice and we will strike hard.
Millions of Americans wish they could be here tonight with us. They saw the
Twin Towers fall, and watched helplessly, wanting to do something to defend
America and our way of life. For us tonight, that wait and that
helplessness
are over. We have reached the point where we are all part of something so
much greater than ourselves. For the rest of our lives, no matter whether
we
stay in the Navy or move on to civilian life, no matter what we do or where
we go, we will remember that on 10 March 2002, we came together and struck
a
blow for freedom.
All of us are volunteers. Most of us joined the Navy to serve our country
and better ourselves. Tonight and in the nights to follow we are given the
opportunity of a lifetime, a chance to truly make a difference in the
world.
Our namesake, John F. Kennedy, wrote that "a single person can make a
difference, and every person should try." Tonight, WE can make a
difference!
We represent America in all its power and diversity. We are men and women,
rich and poor, black and white, and all colors of the human rainbow. We are
Christian, Jew, and yes, Muslim. WE ARE AMERICA.
This war will not be short, pleasant, or easy. It has already required the
sacrifice of our firefighters, our policemen, our soldiers, our Sailors,
our
airmen, and our Marines. More sacrifices will be made. In the end we will
win, precisely because we are those things that the terrorists hate -
prosperous, happy, tolerant, and most of all, free.
Those Americans who wish they could be here with us are, in fact, here with
us in spirit. Never before in American history has our nation been so
completely unified and resolute in purpose. They are cheering us on,
praying
for our safety and our success. Our families are behind us 100%.
We will not let them down. We are, and will be, men and women of honor,
courage, and commitment.
Abraham Lincoln said "America is the last, best hope for the world".
Tonight
we hold a shining beacon of that hope. We shall keep it burning brightly.
Stay sharp. Stay focused. Stay safe. Use the training that has made you the
best Sailors in the world.
Trust in your faith, and in your shipmates. God bless us all, and God bless
America.
