I WILL SAY THAT THE RED WINGS DO NOT WIN THE CUP THIS YEAR.

I HAVE MY REASONS AND WE SHALL SEE COME PLAYOFF TIME

I won't bash you, in fact I agree with you!...I just don't think it's going to happen for them despite their incredible record going this year...I just think someone is going to make a huge upset like the Islanders did back when Pittsburgh was going for their third straight Cup and were looking invincible...But you never know...I had mentioned in the Detroit forum a while back, either the Wings will destroy everyone like they are playing college teams or they will lose and the Cup will totally be up for grabs for anyone to take...I just don't think anyone is a true favorite after the Wings...

We shall see, won't we?

I'm still sticking with my original theory of Detroit vs Boston in the Stanley Cup finals with Detroit winning. Regardless - the Cup will be won in the West.

Toronto is the only team that could be them........HAHAHAHAHA.
Yep, you're crazy. I can see how the last couple playoff runs could fuel fire to the nay-sayers, but they're even deeper this year. There's NO goalie out there I'd rather have on my team going into the playoffs. He has ALL the incentive to win. It's the only thing he hasn't been able to do in his career.

The only thing that has a chance of beating the Red Wings this year is OLD AGE! ;)

They are just too good unless they get tired...

And please dont remind me of the 92-93 Islanders over Pittsburgh thing! ARGH! They wre the ONLY team I ddnt want to face in the playoffs... and it still took them OT in game 7 of the series to beat the Pens.... but that was probably the best Pens team ever... and they didnt win the Cup :(

The Wings are certainly the best team on paper. I don't see them losing the cup, but i think they will be sorely pressed for it. If the Wings can stay healthy, they should be a lock, kinda like Duke in the NCAA

Im still thinking Wings and Flyers in the finals. Dont know who would win, but I know it would be a long, tough series.

Flyers-Boston would also be one hell of a series.

Theres a pretty good chance that the Rangers will meet the flyers in round 1...Upsets do happen:)

So who's YOUR pick to come out of the West and win the Cup then ;)

I see Detroit being upset by an underdog team. I honestly see a cinderella team coming out of the west. Its just that every year in every sport
(Soccer, bb NCAA, NFL, tennis, baseball, etc etc) the best team during the year doesn't seem to have enough to go till the end. I think they waste too much energy during the year, and then teams facing them come out with an effective strategy and an upset occurs. Don't get me wrong Chris, on paper they are the best team, but David did defeat Goliath

FLII ME--That's almost exactly why I agree with ya!...I am kinda doubting that if a cinderella team beats them early that they will go farther than the second round though...

In hockey, the cinderella teams reak havok and defeat some top seeds, but they usually don't make it to the big dance. It's kinda like Belarus. They upset a good Swedish team, and got reminded of who they were against Canada. The danger in this happening is that it is an advantage to that team facing the next round. Don't get me wrong, stranger things have happened.

Mark my words FLII ME, the leafs wont get a whiff of it!!! haha

If the Wings get past the second round, that would be better than last year. They may get battered cause of age, but there are so many to take their places. As long as Chelios and Hasek stay healthy, they should get to the finals.

I gotta agree with P.J. I think it will be the Wings and Flyers in the finals. Though i always gotta hope the Canes will be there :D

The east is SO wide open. Their extremely physical play could lead to a key injury and open a door for Carolina to get deep in the tourney. There are too many good goaltenders in this league to guarantee anything. Irbe could march this team to the promised land. He's capable. In the east, Philly has some goaltending issues, the Rangers are having problems, the Devils are having trouble, Toronto..... The playoff picture could look completely different by the time it's said and done. There's still quite a bit of hockey to go yet. Another 40 or so total possibly points. There's plenty of room for lot's of suprises and they'll happen too.

The Canes just can't get content, plus our goal tending situation needs to be settled, we still don't have a clear #1 goalie, according to management, although Irbe keeps getting the nod. But we also need to generate some serious goals too, we are hurting on the LW side.

Irbe's gotta be the man. He's the only one that can carry those guys deep. He should have all the incentive too, he's been in this league a little while too. It's funny cause I just watched the 94 Western Conference finals with Toronto and San Jose. Of course they lost in game 7. Man, at the end when they were shaking hands, Irbe looked like he was 17 years old!!

FLII ME,

I sure hope that you're correct about this one. I love Steve Yzerman and most of the Detroit players, but I dislike Dumbinik Hasek soooo much, that I really don't want Detroit to win.

My Uncle is the head of the Toronto police dept, they can't do much harm. Honestly, that is how confident I am of Detroit falling on its ass. I swear, if they do win, i will run down the street for 30 seconds bottomless and I will post the picture. Ofcourse, I will put a letter X over my anaconda. :)
