I would still have to say the Leafs/Habs is still the biggest for me?

What do you think?

I know Buffalo, for example, it's probably the Leafs as well, But Ottawa and the Sabres have had a few playoff series that have helped to boost their "hate."

Let's hear 'em.:)

Leafs and Sabres for me!

I think until about a year ago, you'd have had to say Detroit Colorado was one of the greatest rivalries of all time!! I think now that Chicago has a team again, Detroit - Chicago should heat up to a good rivalry.

C'Mon guys...

The BEST rivalry is CLEARLY Tampa Bay vs Vancouver!

Good call; it's a dog fight at the bottom!! Although, key injuries killed the canuks last year. If Naslund and company can stay healty, who knows how far they'll go this year.

Over here in these parts its Rangers/Islanders, without question. Every game has been nice and fight filled, thanks mostly to Theo:)

I feel bad for Cummins, he's the one that has to do the fightin in these games, and he gets beat up pretty badly.

Well a long time ago in a land far, far away I'd say it was the Devils and Rangers of the early and mid 90's!...That was some intense hockey right there...But since then the rivalry has tamed down some since good 'ol Claude Lemieux departed. :) You'd think Lindros and Fleury would be enough to bring the hatred back but I've yet to see it the same as it was...Devils and Flyers have a pretty good rivarly too, we'll see tonight just how intense it currently is...

Of All-time then it has to be Habs vs. Leafs.

The hottest one for the Leafs right now is New Jersey. That back-to-back series they had with them in October was the most enterntaining hockey earlier this season. These guys REALLY hate each other.

Not sure about the WIngs vs. Avs anymore, seems to have fizzled. Wings vs. Oilers has picked up, and Wings vs. Claude (I'm afraid for my life when I visit Detroit) Lemeuix is always a friendly affair! :)

As a Sabres fan -- I think without question for Buffalo its Toronto. Man, are the games in Buffalo intense. The crowd gets into it and its a blast. I've been to T.O. for the same games and they aren't near the atmosphere as they are in Buffalo (since Sabres fans can't / don't) buy up half the Arena. Too bad really but I love that rivalry.

Don't forget the Kings and Panthers too! Too bad they only meet once or twice a year!

Wow, nobody's mentioned Oilers/Flames yet. Sharks and Blues seem to have one going now too.
Most intence right now is the Rangers and Islanders without a doubt.

All time I would have to agree, TOR AND MONTREAL

I think the best rivalry would be the Wings vs Avs. Those games were always so intense. For the Cnaes, it would have to be the Caps, cause they are always the top 2 teams in the divisio. However, the games that get the mose reaction from Canes fans, at least for the last couple years, is against the Flyers. You will alwyas here anti-Primeau slogasn and shouts. Even the advertisements about the game still mention Primeau. he is a hated man in Carolina.

The Rangers-Devils game I went to the other night at the garden was the first one I can remember where I didnt see a devils fan get beat down.

When the Flyers come to town, there are some good rumbles in the crowd. Good stuff, as long as Im not involved:)

Devils-Maple Leafs are good games to watch!

I just thought of another one that's been going on for a while now, and that's Edmonton/Calgary. They had some classic matchups in the playoffs, including Steve Smith's "bank" of Grant Fuhr. Poor guy.:(

Jeff

EDIT: I just realized that you already mentioned this, Mr. 5 and a Game....sorry.:)

Trust me; Primeau can't be hated as much in Carolina as he is in Detroit. He should be glad he doesn't come here often. He was always such a cry baby!! I remember once they interviewed him on the local news and he was showing off his mickey mouse collection. That queer has a bedroom FULL of mickey mouse memorabilia. That aught to tell you something about that fruit!!

Cane Says
02-28-2002, 03:58 PM
I neever knew Primeau had a mickey collection, what a p&^%y. have some pride man and keep that stuff to yourself. He always gets a rough reception here, but fans in the Motor City are so much meaner than they are here in Carolina. We southern hockey fans still have a bit of the genteel south in us and need to learn to show some rudeness, other than to offer them a glass of warm white wine hahahahaha

P.J. Stock--Damn, that's pretty intense stuff there I suppose!...I've only been to three NHL games in my whole life if you can believe that, three Devils/Buffalo games...Two in Buffalo and one in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada for a neutral site game way back when they were doing that, it's been a while since I've been to the last one...And I was in Rochester for a special pre-season game that matched team USA against the Florida Panthers, that was pretty cool...I mainly kept an eye on Brian Rolston who scored a goal for the USA team, because I knew he was going to be playing for the Devils in the future...For the most part I mainly catch games on TV but I'd LOVE to go see a Devils/Rangers game live at either arena especially if both teams are playing well!...

Hey have any of you guys seen that one video that was floating around the Internet a few years ago where these two guys are at a soccer game or something, I can't remember...And one guy says something to the another guy and then turns his back...After he turns his back the second guys kicks him square in the back and the first guys just goes FLYING all the way down the bleachers???...And then the camera guy focuses in on the guy that fell and he's just laying there supposedly barely conscious...That was INTENSE!!!...But I seen it along with some other videos of people getting hit by cars that were clearly fake videos so I wasn't sure if the fan incident was a fake video too...Does anyone know what I'm talking about??...

An old rivalry may have been renewed last night (2/28) during the Canes Bruins game. There was something like 130 penalty minutes in that game, a lot of scraps and a lot of big hits. The teams used to be "cross-town" rivals when the Canes were in hartford. When the two teams meet, ther is still a lot of aggression, so let's hear it for old classic rivalries.
BTW, the canes kicked that bruin azz last night 6-2

Brind'Amore should kill him, hell look at him. He's possibly not only the uglies man in hockey, maybe the world!! Anyway, what's he got to lose? Since he's not playing with Lindros anymore, certainly not his wife....OOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW

damn right, Brindy's nose has been broken far too many times.

That is one ugly SOB!! He's been slacking though the last couple of years, eh? He was a great player in front of the net. He seems like he's trying to be a natural goal scorer lately or something. Maybe you's guys should bring Dino Ciccarrelli out of retirement. You need that presence in front of the net!!

Cane Says
03-02-2002, 04:03 PM
So, are you saying that Lindros was banging Brindy's wife? When was this and did Brindy beat the sh*t out of him?

Just an old rumor floating around. You never heard that? It was a few years ago, when they traded Brind'Amore. Lindros had just gotten back from a concussion and when the team found out, Tocchet knocked him out in practice and gave him another concussion. That's the way I remember it anyway.

Funny story, But It is definitly not true! How bout Lindros wit the hattrick against his former team? and they still almost lost.

But the rivalry is still there, great game to watch.

No not really. There was about 1,000 bone jarring hits, but only one fight. Brashear fought Barnaby, and it was no surprise that Monkey boy won, considering he's got like 100 pounds on Matt.

There were a lot of little scrums too.

Barnaby's a squirrley little bastard. He looses a lot of fights, but he's not afraid to fight the big guys!!

For us it used to be Boston-Montreal of course, but that one has really died over the years. More recently, Boston fans have hated the Canes, because of Sean Hill cheap-shotting Samsonov and Thornton (tried to take both their knees out, Sammy in 01-20, Thornton last season) Even that one died since Hill hasn't cheapshotted anyone this season. Rivalries are tough in a league with too many teams.

We had a great home+home with the Rangers earlier this season. Vintage sweaters. Thornton got his cheek busted by Lindros, there was a lot of fights, but we won both games

Now that I've reflected a bit on this subject...there have been several big rivalries with Buffalo. Especially during the years the league stuck Toronto in the Campbell Conference, which is got to be the dumbest move ever...

During the 80's...Buffalo fans called for blood when we played any of the following teams: Montreal, Quebec, Boston, Hartford...But more so the Bruins, cuz we saw them in the playoffs something like 6 times in 8 years...

During the early 90's...Toronto is back, but we also grow a healthy hatred for Philadelphia and Ottawa.

Late 90's til now...we still love playing Toronto. But I've noticed Tampa Bay (!) has actually become a little brutal with us...mainly because much of the staff in Tampa used to be affiliated with Buffalo at some point...

It's great though...I'm praying we can squeek into the PO's so I can get into it a little more this year...
