Rangers Canceled Reservations at Hotel in World Trade Center
By Barry M. BloomNew York, Sept. 11 (Bloomberg) -- If not for a change in hotel reservations, the New York Rangers hockey team might have been victims of today's terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center. The Rangers had been booked to stay at the Marriott World Trade Center this week, a hotel in one of the towers destroyed when hijacked planes crashed into them this morning. But the team, which originally planned to hold its training camp at nearby Chelsea Piers, decided to change hotels in May when it moved its camp uptown to Madison Square Garden. ``My God, we would've been right in the middle of it,'' said Rangers spokesman John Rosasco. Rosasco said he heard about the first attack this morning while going to a television talk show where Rangers center Eric Lindros was scheduled to appear. Rosasco said he got a call on his cell phone from someone in his office telling him that a plane had crashed into one of the towers. By the time he and Lindros got to the TV studio, another plane had hit the other tower. ``The show was canceled and the audience was sent home,'' Rosasco said. ``Eric never made that appearance.''
