Read this in the Detroit News this morning:
Regardless of whether Uwe Krupp returns from a rotator cuff injury, the Wings are going to need a physical, experienced defenseman to complete what could be a formidable team for the playoffs.
Penguins defenseman Darius Kasparaitis could be that sort of player. In fact, The Sun newspaper in Toronto reported over the weekend that the Wings might offer right wing Darren McCarty to the Penguins for Kasparaitis.
Wings General Manager Ken Holland does not comment on trade rumors.
The Penguins certainly will entertain trade talk regarding Kasparaitis, who will be an unrestricted free agent July 1.
Kasparaitis, although not big, is capable of putting fear into the opposition because of his reputation for nasty hits. As the March 19 trade deadline approaches, his price will increase. Stories in the Pittsburgh press suggest the Penguins would want two players in return.
