View Full Version : What about Bob?

Nearly every article I've read on Canoe.ca keeps rehashing how Bob Goodenow saved the 94-95 NHL season with a last ditch deal before that season was toast. They keep wondering if Bob will be able to do it again.

Somehow, I don't think so, I think last time the PA didn't give up as much as the owners did, and this time it looks like the owners won't be giving up anything at all to the players.

So will Bettman cancel the season on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday? Or does he have a Valentine's day gift of his own for NHL fans?

I think what'll happen is they'll announce today that there will be a press conference for whatever time tomorrow. That will be it then.

It's not a question of IF they'll cancel the season, but WHEN they will. My guess is by the end of the day on Wednesday, the dirty deed will be done.

Chris, you nailed it bud.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will announce the cancellation of the 2004-05 season at a news conference Tuesday in New York, following the failure of both sides in the labour dispute to get a deal on paper by his weekend deadline

Damn, I was off by a day. Guess I gave them too much credit  Then again, we all knew this was going to happen for months now, so it's no big shock or downer since it was expected. Better luck next winter

I don't know about where you guys live, but the local media here hasn't even mentioned the NHL lockout until about 3 days ago(Too busy talking about the Red Sox and Pats championships is an excuse that can only last so long). Now they've talked about it in detail since this past weekend, since there's no football or baseball to speak of. . Even the lowly Celtics get more attention than the Bruins. Just goes to show hockey is on the bottom of the list in this town

Rick,

The Detroit media has been all over the lockout, as the Lions and Tigers aren't doing much of anything, still I tend to get my info from Canada as well.. it's the national religion there and every hiccup from the NHL or the PA gets measured and analyzed.

For me, the first part of the season doesn't really get me excited, so I miss a few games and not notice one way or the other, right about this time of a regular season though is when games really start to mean something and trade rumors are buzzing left and right. In the next few weeks I'm going to really notice how much I miss the game. Damn this s*cks.

If this league folds, they should just keep hockey in the cities that give a damn about their teams (meaning Canada, the original 6 teams, and a couple others that do good in attendance). All the other cities are just holding these teams back, since they're not capable to selling the same amount of tickets and merchandise.

Edmonton
Calgary
Vancouver
Montreal
Toronto
Ottawa
Detroit
Boston
NYR
Chicago(force Wirtz to sell, he's the only thing holding them back)
Colorado
Philly
Minny
Columbus
San Jose

15 team league. You'd no longer need divisions, since there would be just 7-8 teams per conference. Top 4 teams make the playoffs in each conference, which would make the playoffs a bit shorter. Chances are rivalries would return, since teams would face eachother in the playoffs all the time. Since there's less teams, you could also cut the season down to 60 games instead of 82, which would make games count more.

The irony would be idiot Bettman tried to make the NHL a success by overexpanding it, and instead the NHL would become a success by slashing itself in half.

We had quite a sellout streak going (~200 or so games) until a fluke in '03/'04

Dallas needs to get Mikey Modano a better investment consultant. You'd think a man would play a little hungrier knowing he's out a few mil from poor investments, I mean the guy spends $400 a month on puppychow alone!

Can you please force the Rangers to fire Sather, he's the star of his own action flick, the saboteur
