From the NHL's website (http://www.nhlcbanews.com/news/proposal_release020205.html)
Piere LeBrun points out the choice bits and breaks it down for the layman (http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/2005/02/02/918110-cp.html)
-Plans for a shortened regular season this year with a full playoff, but splitting some revenues from the post-season to "ensure that the players receive the agreed-upon 53 per cent of league revenues."
I don't care about the rest of it.. if we could just agree to play this year as stated here.. that would work for me.

Bah!
If I were a player, I'd say hells no to that, and just sit out the rest of the season. I'd also say a lot of other things, but this board is still PG-13, so I won't repeat them. ;)

Somebody is going to have to agree somewhere. Why the hell not start now rather next year or the year after when only the dire hard fans (us) will give a crap when hockey comes back.
BTW swear all you want.. all we'll see is ****: Mother****ers ruining my ****ing game and if ever get my hockeystick on that ****ing ******* Bettman he'd better pray that death comes quickly for his mother****ing sorry ass!

I hate to break it to you Ken, but us die-hard fans are all that's left right now. I pay a lot of attention to national sports sources, and pretty much nobody cares that the NHL isn't playing. Hell, half the people out there don't even know the NHL isn't playing right now!
Not to mention, that even in America's traditional hockey towns, you have other teams that are dominating people's attention. Philly has the Eagles, Boston has the Patriots and Red Sox, Dallas has the Spurs, Detroit has the Pistons, and even Minnesota has the Timberwolves.
You basically only have Canadians and hard-core American fans really longing for this lockout to end. It's bad. Hell, it was bad before the lockout. The NHL got worse ratings that frivkin' BOWLING! Let me repeat that just in case you missed it... the NHL was watched by less people in America than some fat dudes rolling a ball across the floor! The poker shows that ESPN is running instead of hockey thses days are getting FAR higher ratings than even playoff games.
Bottom line is, there are no casual fans left. :(

Unfortunately I have to agree with you Tom, just like we talked about last week.
Look at the Poll ESPN did, with a State by State account of "Do you care that the NHL is expected to cancel the 2004-05 season?"

Damn! Not a single state cares if the season is cancelled. Not even here in Michigan. :(

I read on Yahoo yesterday that the college basketball that ESPN replaced NHL games with this season is getting exactly twice the ratings that the NHL games were getting last season. Who the hell watches college ANYTHING? You might as well be into pee-wee football if you're going to watch that.

Just to add into that, I've yet to hear anything about this labour dispute in US national news. Even SportsCenter doesn't really mention it much.
Is it too much to hope that maybe someone from either the NHL or NHLPA read that Yahoo report as well? They're not going to improve their image by cancelling a season.

Uhhhhhhhhh dude... college basketball is WAY popular. It's down from where it was say 10 years ago, but there are still tons of people who like it as much or more than the pro game.
And college football is prolly the best sport in the world.

I know, but I could never for the life of me figure out WHY people watch college sports (or NASCAR, for that matter). It's boring as all hell. The rosters turn over 100% every 4 years. It makes for really boring sports when you have no clue who any of the players are or what their skill level is. By the time you get to "know" the players, they're gone. Sucks sucks sucks.
