Bettman also reiterated that the owners don't have a drop-dead date for when they would have to pull the plug on the 2004-05 season.

He said the players' association is kidding itself if it doesn't believe the owners are unified in their position

Nothing new. I just wanted to clean up some of the dust that's been collecting for the past week.

In other news I just got a HDTV, and I'd REALLY love to see some LIVE hockey on it! :(

I think Bettman is lying - I believe there IS a drop dead date for ending the season. I keep hearing and reading that if there isn't anything in the works by the second week in Dec., they will cancel the season.

Hockey in HD is the way to go! It can be the saving grace of the NHL as well for fans who can't get tickets to get out to games. Mark Cubans HDNet (http://www.hd.net) on DirecTV does an incredible job of bringing HD Hockey games during the regular season.

I find that hard to believe, especially with the way they've told the arena owners to book other events on a 30 or 45 day rolling schedule. If they reach an agreement on Jan 15th that would mean they wouldn't start until March 1st? A little late to start a season, don't you think? I think if they don't get it done by New Years day it's all over for the 04-05 season. (we'll just award the 04-05 Stanley Cup to the Bruins for the hell of it :p )

Here's hoping the NHL accepts the NHLPA's offer later this week [/end cautious/pointless optimism]
