The CBC has been holding this contest to determine who Canadians want and Sunday announced its Top 10, which consisted of Don Cherry, Tommy Douglas, Sir John A. Macdonald, Terry Fox, Dr. Frederick Banting, Lester B. Pearson, Alexander Graham Bell, Pierre Trudeau, Wayne Gretzky and David Suzuki.

While I think this is a Canadian networks sweeps event to draw viewers, apparently back home it's the cause of some controversy. Many left-wing (and I mean really left wing, not how the FOXNews channel refers to centerists) journalists have decided to pick on those voters who nominated Don Cherry for the title. Here's a story about it on Canoe. (http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/Columnists/Toronto/Joe_Warmington/2004/10/20/676851.html)

Personally, I think Grapes is a good choice.. actually all of the choices are good, even Suzuki. If I do call in and vote, I'll probably vote for Banting who is from my hometown (Alliston), or Lester B. Pearson, who was a great prime minister and embassador for Canada.

Don Cherry admits it: He's not the greatest Canadian. "I'm not better than Terry Fox," he told the Sun this weekend. (http://www.canoe.ca/Television/oct25_cherry-sun.html)

That doesn't mean the controversial Coach's Corner commentator wouldn't love to crash CBC's party and be named The Greatest Canadian. The series resumes tonight with wrestler Bret Hart leading the Cherry charge (CBC, 8 p.m.)

The Hitman supports Grapes? Damn! Maybe Don has a chance to win this thing after all.
