I've heard this rumor twice, and Craig Patrick has said he wants to get MORE firepower! :D
I could picture Tony Amonte on MArio's wing ;)
But I doubt the Pens would pay that much for him...

Last night on NHL2night they said that Amote is definitely on the block but it will be hard to trade him as long as Chicago is winning without the fans rioting.

I think the thought of Amonte to the Pens is a bit realistic for a few reasons-
1) I think it is beginning to be evident that the Penguins won't be contenders this year and my prediction is they won't even make the playoffs- so why give up 1-2 prospects and a god player for amonte when you can go for UFA's in teh offseason. They have no goalies and now Kovalev, Straka, and Lemieux are out for an extended period. But I am a Ranger fan adn Larry Brooks, who is a writer in teh New York Post that writes on teh Rangers, says that for the Rangers to get Amonte they would have to give up Radek Dvorak (will be as good as amonte very soon IMO), Jamie Lundmark (a coveted youngster that Philidephia said they would have taken instead of Pavel Brendl), and a 1rst or 2nd draft pick. That is so much to give up- and like the Penguins I doubt the Rangers will be contenders for the cup at years end (but could easily make the playoffs and will do better than the Penguins)- and the bottom line is that price tag is ridiculous and suicide for a team's future.
2) How can teh Penguins afford him? He wants 7 million dollars- and teh Penguins are nearly bankrupt for pete sake.
3) If anything the Penguins need a solid, puck-moving defenseman or even a goalie.
I don't see Amonte going to the Pittsburgh Penguins but I think he will def. go to a team in teh Eastern Conference.
