Leafs Cujo's best choice (http://www.canoe.ca/Slam020626/col_simmons-sun.html)

Dominik Hasek has officially retired and no, the Detroit Red Wings are not interested in playing the big-money, long-term game for Joseph. They will not pay him $9 million US a year. They will not sign him to a long-term contract. Hasek had two Hart trophies and six Vezinas to call his own. They won't pay Joseph Hasek-like money.

Unless I'm being lied to by Red Wings executives who have always steered me correctly in the past, the only games Joseph will be playing in Detroit next season will be against the Wings.

It was assumed when Ed Belfour was let free, the Dallas Stars would take a run at Joseph. But the Stars' intentions are clear. Their goalies are Marty Turco and Ron Tugnutt.

It was assumed the St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers would be participants in what was once dubbed the Joseph Sweepstakes. But both general managers have already said they are not interested and at least one of them is known for telling the truth.

Lately it has been assumed the New York Rangers would go large after Joseph. Yesterday, though, the Rangers met with Mike Richter's representative in trying to work out a new deal for the free-agent goalie. The Rangers have young Dan Blackburn for the future: If they can get Richter to take a pay cut to stay in New York, then there's no place for Joseph here either.

So?

I still think Joseph is leaving TML. Something must have happened between him and Quinn, with the assumption being that the something was he was promised two games during the Olympics and only given one.

Anyway, I'd love the guy to come back, I just don't see it happening at this late a date.

I still think the Red Wings will make the strongest play for him...

If not, I think the Rangers will go after him, and after that I'd say he has a chance of remaining with the Maple Leafs ...

Maybe the Kings are a longshot? I haven't heard them mentioned, but Potvin has a history of being kind of streaky... good and bad.

Being in the second largest city in the US, you gotta figure they have some money to spend...

The Blackhawks could be another place with enough cash to sign him...

And my favorite pick would be the Thrashers ! I really love that Heatley and Kovalchuk combo.... put some solid goaltending behind them, and watch thing start to happen!!

The Kings are out of the Cujo run.

Potvin Stays, Boucher Probably Will Test Market

The Kings ended the suspense Wednesday and exercised their option on Felix Potvin's contract, guaranteeing the goaltender $3.55 million next season, including revisions based on his performance last season.

Ooohhhhh... Atlanta is gonna be scary if they get a bit more talent behind those two kids.

If that happens, the Canes and the Caps will have some contenders for the SE division

Penalty Box (http://www.penaltybox.com/home/) is reporting that Cujo may have agreed to terms with the Blue and White.

Cujo Deal Soon - Stay Tuned?!?!
Added: Thursday June 27, 2002 by Rick C
We're hearing, through a fairly decent source in past instances, that there are whispers around the ACC that Curtis Joseph may have today agreed in principle to a contract with the Leafs.

At this point it's nowhere near confirmed, but where there is smoke, there could possibly be fire.

On the other hand, it is worth noting that at least one other major media source is suggesting that talks between Cujo's agent (Don Meehan) and the Leafs have almost all but broken down and neither side is optimistic about a future deal.

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Well, I am sure you guys would be glad to have him back! ;)

I'm a little surprised that he wouldn't test the market... most guys seem to do that, but he has a solid team there... maybe there is a little bit of team loyalty still in sports?

It'd be interesting to see if he'd take less to stay a Leaf.

Both sides have dug in their heels with respect to the term of the contract, with Joseph wanting a guaranteed four-year deal and the Leafs offering three. There is no indication that either side intends to move off its position anytime soon and negotiations have been reduced to a staring contest.

So much for the Penaltybox source. :(

Cujo is a free agent, who will pick him up? And for how much?

I think if Cujo is willing to take less money to get a great chance to hoist the Cup, he'll come to Detroit. The same happened last year with Brett Hull, Luc Robataille and Hasek.

If Cujo is really after money, he'll end up in New York as they seem to have an endless supply of it there.
