The Carolina Hurricanes used the 25th overall pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft to add depth in goal, selecting Cam Ward from the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League. Ward completed his rookie season last year, leading all WHL goaltenders in goals against average (2.26). With a third-round pick, Carolina took defenseman Jesse Lane of the Hull Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. On Sunday, Carolina chose goalie Daniel Manzato and center Adam Taylor to complete the draft.
