The Great Expansion began in 1967 with the Original Six being joined by the "Original Six Expansion teams...
Who do you think has had the most success, and has been the most important to hockey , and why?
I am a bit biased... but I will say Pittsburgh. The back-to-back Cups , Mario & Jagr, the record 17-game Win Streak, the 11-year playoff streak, Lalime's rookie goaltender winning streak, Mario saving the team... again, by buying them, the return of Mario as a player/owner... The Pens have really contributed alot, albiet mostly over the later half of their exisitance (1984+... the Mario Years)

Problem with the Pens is, they did almost nothing for the first 20 years of their existance.
Philly was one of the better teams of the 70's, 80's 90's and 00's. They are one of the big reasons that hockey became known as a "goon" sport. And if you want to talk about amazing goalie performances, how about Ron Hextall winning the Conn Smythe even though the Flyers lost the Cup?
The Blues were good right off the bat, and had some good runs with Hull.
The Kings basically introduced hockey to lots of people who had no clue about it, especially after Gretzky arrived.

I had to go with Philly here, mainly cause in the mid 70s they were unbeatable, mainly due to the bullies and goalie Bernie Parent. The Pens were my second choice cause of the Cup years there, and Mario being the best points per games played player there has ever been. I had forgotten about the California Golden Seals and their teal uniforms. They were the worst next to LA.

I gotta ride with Darth on this one, in the end you're judged solely on your accomplishments and although the Broad Street Bully's were great in the seventies, the Pens have seen the top of the mountain, and it is good.
Good question:cool:

Hey Mary-O: The Flyers won the cup twice in 74 and 75, and they've been to the finals seven times!

I think St. Louis also has a great streak since coming into the League. I believe they have the longest streak of all teams in the NHL in making the playoffs (something like 21 years).
My pick was for St. Louis because of their team consistancy in making it to the playoffs year and year - although Stanley has eluded them.

I voted for the Blues because I owe Chris money.. kidding. ;) I think the Blues have consistantly been a threat, they're always in the play-offs.
